La Bodega is pleased to present Blue, a solo exhibition featuring the drawings and paintings of B. Hayden.
This series displays a large number of intimate self-portraits that break the bodily form down into shapes and hard colors, expressive gestures and solid lines. Hayden’s technique includes building up pigment on the canvas, resulting in lush, almost cake-like textures. The works within Blue have a muted palate of Ultramarine Blue and Blue Black, and these bold colors work with the brushstrokes to create their own narrative.
Hayden is a lesbian born and raised in Houston, Texas. She received her B.F.A. in drawing and painting from the University of North Texas, and has been practicing professionally for the past 8 years. She is a figurative artist and counts Costa Dvorezky, Lucian Freud and Euan Uglow among her influences.
Hayden has been a resident at Arts, Letters and Numbers in Albany, NY, ComPeung in Doi Saket, Thailand, and Trestle Art Space in Brooklyn, NY. Her first solo exhibition was in 2017 at Voertman’s Gallery in Denton, Texas, and she has been involved in a number of group exhibitions and pop-ups. Her drawing “Red Dress” is part of the permanent collection of the Lesbian HerStory Archives in Brooklyn, NY
